Modicum Divine

Performance Description

Amy Malbeuf creates a portal: a ring of colour through which we can spiritually enter the urban landscape. Through ritualized but unrehearsed action, Malbeuf spreads stained salt with a fertilizer-spreader and marks the space as sacred.

Artistic Statement

Malbeuf fears that she is a hypocrite, a glutton, and a fraud. These fears manifest in interactions with the landscape by mode of ritual. These rituals often result in a ring of stained salt that acts as a portal of spiritual entry into the land. This ring of colour eventually dissolves, and there is little physical evidence of it ever existing, yet it is still there. The adjustment she makes to the surrounding environment is irreparable. This irreparable collapse is akin to the problems indigenous cultures across the globe confront currently and historically.
